Overview:
School districts throughout New England are facing the challenge of dramatically improving low-performing high schools.  The 2011 High School Transformation Summit will bring together superintendents, principals, teachers, students, and other educators from several small urban New England school districts – including Central Falls, RI, Brockton, MA, and Hartford, CT – to learn about transformation efforts and progress made to date and to share ideas about how to confront ongoing challenges.

Program:

1:00-1:30 -- Student-guided tours of Central Falls High School

1:45-2:00 -- Welcoming remarks from Central Falls Superintendent, Dr. Frances Gallo

2:00-3:00 -- Transforming Central Falls High School: a moderated discussion featuring perspectives from Central Falls principals, teachers, and students

3:00-4:30 -- Moderated breakout sessions focused on sharing experiences and best practices among represented school districts and guests.  Topics will include: developing transformation plans, funding issues, teacher and student buy-in, improving quality of instruction, parent engagement, and program evaluation.

4:30-5:00 -- Reception and networking.
